My raison d’être for the summer months of 2013: the UN in Geneva. Nothing like China or Mexico, Geneva is actually a rather small city with many many many expats, amongst them a bunch of UN and other international organization trainees. Good thing there is the Geneva Intern Association, an organization that not only advocates for interns’ rights but also organizes loads of fun activities; from lunches and drinks to mountain hikes.
I discovered that the Geneva summer is absolutely lovely, probably thanks to the magical trifecta of mountains, water and sun. Bains des Paquis is the place to be to have a drink, stare at the Jet d’Eau, admire the yachts and dip your toes in the water. Daredevils can have their fun
jumping of the springboards and hang-gliding into the water.
Geneva is also the scene for bunch of other activities; fête de la musique, the city parade a two week long fair and the ‘Concert de l’Aube – Genève‘: an amazing way to wake up and start your day if you are an early bird or end your party night with a coffee and relaxing music before going to sleep off your tiny hangover. The summer festivities end with a spectacular fireworks show and everyone in town gathers around the lake to witness it.
And if you get bored of Geneva, which is bound to happen at some point (excuse my honesty), there are a lot of hidden treasures just a car – , bus or train ride away.
